We were shocked!
We went online to discover what the industry pricing standards were for professional cover design.
Granted, there is a lot that goes into a great book cover.
And despite the phrase "You can't judge a book by it's cover", it is the first thing a prospective buyer will see. And if it is amateurish in nature, the buyer will pick up the book next to it on the same shelf.
But to shell out $600 to $1,500 seems foolish to us.
Our prices for cover design: $30 per hour
What this means to you is that an E-book cover (properly sized for E-Book marketing) will be usually cost less than $50, and a cover for a print edition (front cover, back cover and spine) will usually cost less than $80. NOTE: If you are ordering both an E-Book edition and a Print edition...well, this is where the hour rate is definitely to your advantage since creating both covers at once is much less time consuming than than making both seperately.
